Therapeutic Approach Training

Over the past 13 years, I have developed a method that teaches carers a therapeutic approach. The therapeutic approach enables a listening quality that uses the whole body and all senses to connect with the person a carer is looking after.

This listening quality brings life and lightness to the interaction. It connects both carer and client with their humanness and fosters connection between both on the level of their human essence.

I teach carers gentle physical movements that enable a sense of flow. Carers can do these movements with the person they are looking after. The type of movements I choose are easy to learn and easy to do. They feel good and enhance the wellbeing of either person.

I have taught the therapeutic approach in care homes and carers had this to say:

‘I experience relaxation and communication between myself and my client. The client relaxes, and I find ways to communicate with them.’

‘The therapeutic approach exercises help me bond with my client, and doing the exercises is relaxing.’

‘The therapeutic approach helps you to get to know your client from a different aspect. It makes you more aware of how you can connect without words.’

Carers often report that the therapeutic approach helps them feel better connected to their client and helps to improve their relationship with them.

Carers express that the exercises make them feel empowered and rewarded as they experienced the development and progress of their client over time.

Even in the short term, after just 30-minutes doing therapeutic approach exercises with their client, carers consistently report four immediate effects:

Stress levels reduce for both carer and client

Carers feel more grounded and centred

Carers feel more connected to their client

Clients feel calmer and more settled

The Therapeutic Approach is an effective tool for carers to help them sustain their own health and wellbeing and fosters connectedness with their clients in long-term care.
